Woodland residents and other local supporters hold a candlelight vigil Saturday evening on the Gum Avenue overpass over Highway 113 in support of the family of Luis Gutierrez Navarro, the 26-year-old man who was fatally shot at the site by undercover Yolo County sheriff's deputies April 30 after he brandished a knife at the officers. A march from the Department of Motor Vehicles office on East Gum Avenue preceded the vigil. Latino groups, who question why Gutierrez was being stopped by the officers in the first place, are calling for an independent investigation of the incident by state or federal authorities.
