EN FILIPINAS

Dear friends,

Migrants from the Asia-Pacific, Africa, North America, Europe and
Latin America will converge in Manila for the Second Assembly of the
International Migrants Alliance (IMA) on July 3-5, 2011 at the
University of the Philippines Hotel (UP Hotel) in Diliman, Quezon
City, Philippines. With the theme: ‘Migrants, Resist Intensified
Imperialist Attacks, Strengthen and Expand our Movement, Achieve
Victories in our Struggle!’ it will be an occasion to share issues
confronting migrants, learn lessons and celebrate victories and forge
stronger unity in our common struggles.

The IMA assembly is made even more significant as it will be held
back-to-back with the holding of the first International Festival of
Peoples’ Rights and Struggles (IFPRIS) from July 5-6, 2011. The IFPRIS
is a space for workers, peasants, women, migrants, indigenous peoples,
youth, cultural workers and other sectors from different parts of the
globe to learn, share and interact with one another on issues and
challenges that confront them and to celebrate their victories and
lessons learned from their struggles all over the world.

IMA will sponsor a forum entitled: “The Global Movement of Migrants:
Current Situation and Resistance Against Imperialist Attacks” as part
of the main events of the IFPIS. It will be held on July 5, 2011 from
1:00 to 5:00 PM at the UP Hotel, same venue of the IMA Second Assembly
(please see attached CONCEPT NOTE).

The IMA forum aims to generate in-depth discussion on the situation of
migrants amidst the current global crisis. It also hopes to bring into
light various forms of resistance of the worldwide movement of
migrants against the attacks of the proponents of neo-liberal
globalization and how they may forge stronger unity and solidarity.

MIGRANTE International takes this opportunity to invite you to become
a member of the IMA and to participate in the IMA Second Assembly and
the IMA forum. We are sending you this early announcement to provide
you ample time to raise funds in support of your participation. A
formal letter of invitation from the IMA General Secretariat will be
forthcoming.

We hope to get feedback from you very soon and will appreciate it if
you can suggest other names of individuals or groups who might be
interested to participate as well. We shall provide you with more
details and other practical information about these events in the days
to come. In the meantime, please feel free to contact us for any
inquiries.

Thank you very much and we hope to see you in July!
