On april 30th 2009 twenty five year old Luis Gutierrez was walking home from the  Woodland DMV after taking his Driver license test when he was approached by 3 undercover gang suppression Yolo County Sheriffs officers who shot 6 bullets one hitting him in the back killing him in(2:00 pm) broad daylight. We all ask why he was stopped? and killed, we get no answers! Join the community in standing up and asking WHY? And for transparency from Yolo County.We cannot allow the selective killing of our sons and daughters,ya basta !!!

En Abril 30,2009 el joven de venia de tomar el examen de manejar del DMV de Woodland cuando aproximadamente a las 2 de la Tarde fue  valaziado por 3 Sheriffs encubiertos.Aun no se sabe porque fue asesinado y valaziado  por la espalda. Es por eso que  exigimos:

Family supporters to march June 6

Supporters of Luis Gutierrez, Farm Worker,who was shot and killed by Yolo County Sheriff's deputies April 30, plan to march through part of Woodland in his memory.

The June 6 march will start at 7 p.m. beginning at the Woodland Department of Motor Vehicles office at 82 5 East St., according to Al Rojas, an immigrant rights activist and former UFW organizer who is supporting Gutierrez's family. The march will travel east on East Gum Avenue until it reaches the Highway 113 overpass, where Gutierrez, 26, was killed.

The march will then turn into a candlelight vigil scheduled to last until 9 p.m.

Participants are asked to wear a white T-shirt, Rojas said. All are welcome to attend.

The news came out of a community meeting held Thursday night at the Community & Senior Center at 2001 East St. The meeting was billed as a question-and-answer session for the community, though few questions were asked.

Rojas said th e county's gang task force, made up of Woodland police officers and Yolo County Sheriff's deputies, should not be able to violate the civil rights of the community. He accused the unit of stopping people of color to justify crime statistics and protect federal grant money.

"We're going to investigate that," Rojas told a crowd of about 100 people.

Mark Merin and associate Josh Kaizuka, civil rights attorneys from Sacramento, said Gutierrez might have been laying down on his belly when he was shot. He cited the full autopsy report that stated bullet

fragments were found the exit wound of Gutierrez's face, and hypothesized the fragments could have ricocheted from the ground.

"We want an independent investigation at the highest level," Merin said. "I don't know who would be responsive to this type of investigation, but it should be someone outside of Yolo County. They shouldn't be doing it themselves."

The shooting of Gutierrez has been under investigation by the Woodland Police Department, with the Sheriff's Department doing its own internal probe. The Yolo County District Attorney's Office will ultimately review the findings.

Rojas also asked for a fully independent investigation by either the state Attorney General's Office or the regional U.S. Attorney's Office.

Rojas cracked jokes about some of the evidence found by Woodland Police Department detective Dallas Hyde in Gutierrez's room. Several CDs were listed in a department report as "having gang affiliation." Rojas said the CDs had Norteno-style country music on them and had nothing to do with the Norteno street gang.

Woodland police suspect Gutierrez was a Sureno, the Norteno gang's rivals.

Rojas also asked why the Sheriff's Department had=2 0not returned Gutierrez's wallet to his mother.

Gutierrez was shot and killed by plainclothes deputies on his way home from taking a driver's license test.

The WPD's findings state Gutierrez was stopped near the 113 overpass. Gutierrez reportedly ran from the deputies for about 200 feet, then turned and attacked Sgt. Dale Johnson with a knife. Johnson dodged the attack, and fellow deputy Herman Oviedo drew his service pistol and fired two rounds at Gutierrez. Johnson then fired four rounds at Gutierrez.

One of the rounds hit Gutierrez in the back of his right shoulder; the bullet exited through the left side of his jaw.
